Smart agriculture responding to the global challenges, climate smart agriculture must improve on all aspects: smarter resource use, sustainable land use, increasing yields, reducing carbon footprints, supporting smallholder farmers’ incomes and building resilience.
About half the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused by agricultural activities come from land use change – mainly the cutting down of forests to expand farmland. But smart farming practices can drastically reduce these emissions. The first goal of the agricultural sector should be to reduce GHG emissions related to land use change for agriculture.
Making the transition to sustainable agriculture is a process and it is important to point out that reaching toward the goal is the responsibility of all participants in the system.
The objective of nutrient use is to increase the overall performance of cropping systems by providing economically optimum nourishment to the crop while minimizing nutrient losses from the field and supporting agricultural system sustainability through contributions to soil fertility or other components of soil quality.
Lima Europe is aware of this transition process, for that reason our Research and Development continuously works on finding new products with new textures to increase the nutrient uptake by crops that will lead to higher yields harvest. These new formulas contain very high concentration of nutrients so just a small amount of fertilizer is needed to provide a full range of nutrients to plants. Innovation is the key of our company.
In close cooperation with the entire food chain, Lima Europe continues to be focused on new product types and application technology to allow more efficient crop nutrition and a correspondingly lower environmental impact. Products are increasingly being targeted at specific crops, with new technologies offering a variety of release profiles and at the same time taking account of limited resources like water.
Our R&D Projects
Product Stewardship at Lima Europe
Product stewardship is a key focus of the fertilizer industry. It refers to the industry’s Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) management. Lima Europe activities make sure our fertilizers and their raw materials are processed and manufactured, handled, stored, distributed and used in a safe way with regard to health, occupational and public safety, environment, and security. Product stewardship is our guide through supply chain and gives us a systematic approach to monitor and review our products quality and handling.
The European chemicals regulation REACH regulates the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals in order to guarantee a high level of human health protection, the protection of the environment and the free circulation of substances within the internal European market. It was introduced in the European Union for the registration, evaluation and approval of substances in the year 2007, and can be considered the most comprehensive law on chemicals in the world.
Lima Europe has integrated the REACH standards into the development of our processes in such a way as to guarantee the continuity of our products in the market with the highest quality and respect for the environment.
As one of the leading European providers of fertilizers, we have not only national or European, but also international experience in the assessment of substances. Together with experts from the Product and Chemical Safety department on the production side, we are working continuously to achieve the highest level of safety for the use of our products.
